Climate change is real. Carbon emissions caused by the burning of fossil fuels, mining activities and bovine and other animal husbandry activities is destroying our planet. The countries that emit the most pollution are by far the United States and China (see Wikipedia chart).
Climate change not only affects and sometimes destroys animal habitats, it also affects human agricultural activities. Wikipedia.org states,
For each plant variety, there is an optimal temperature for vegetative growth, with growth dropping off as temperatures increase or decrease. Similarly, there is a range of temperatures at which a plant will produce seed. Outside of this range, the plant will not reproduce. As the graphs show, corn will fail to reproduce at temperatures above 95 °F (35 °C) and soybean above 102 °F (38.8 °C).
Climate change has caused a significant number of changes all over the planet. NASA has stated that, “Taken as a whole, the range of published evidence indicates that the net damage costs of climate change are likely to be significant and to increase over time.” It’s a problem we can’t continue to ignore.
The use of fossil fuels has greatly contributed to climate change. We’ve seen violence erupt over the Paris Agreement, which was intended to decrease fossil fuel consumption worldwide. Jesus clearly does not condone violence as a means to an end. People say if they pollute the atmosphere they will just move somewhere where it’s not polluted. However, you can’t escape climate change. In Isaiah 30:16 (NIV) the Lord talks about our “swift horses,”
You said, ‘No, we will flee on horses.’ Therefore you will flee! You said, ‘We will ride off on swift horses.’ Therefore your pursuers will be swift!
In other words, those who use violence as a means to an end will be caught in their own trap. Jesus said in Matthew 26:52 (NIV), “Put your sword back in its place for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.”
Because China is such a high polluter, in purchasing goods from them we are complicit in planetary destruction (unless it is from a sustainable source). In driving gas guzzling vehicles to travel long distances without needing to we are complicit in our own destruction.
In Mark 16:15 (NIV), Jesus tells his followers to, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” God said about the Kingdom of Heaven in Isaiah 11:9 (NIV), “They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”
I’m telling you that the Kingdom of Heaven is now. It is within.
We need to support legislation for a New Green Deal much like the Paris Agreement and start depending less on fossil fuels and more on renewable energy. You see from the chart it’s working for France in reducing their carbon emissions. Please see the following petitions if you agree that we should not be fouling our own nest by emitting tons of carbon into the atmosphere on the daily.
